Google Cloud is further advancing Gemini's transformation from an AI assistant to an enterprise-grade intelligent agent.

On October 8 local time, Google Cloud announced the launch of the Gemini Universal Work Agent at the "Gemini at Work 2026" conference, positioned as a general-purpose AI agent for enterprise work. The product aims to allow users to directly access internal business information, tools, and systems through a unified prompt window to complete a variety of work tasks.

Unlike traditional AI assistants that mainly provide Q&A and content generation, Gemini can understand user needs by combining the complete business context of the enterprise, autonomously plan tasks, invoke corresponding skills and tools, and then connect to the customer's business systems to execute the work.

In terms of functionality, Gemini covers multiple scenarios including knowledge work, information Q&A, content creation, and programming. Users do not need to switch between different AI tools; instead, they can submit requests through a single interface, and Gemini will select the corresponding capabilities based on the task type to complete the work.

In terms of enterprise applications, Google Cloud has also equipped Gemini with enterprise-grade security, management, and governance capabilities to meet enterprise requirements in data security, permission control, and AI usage management.

This release means that Google Cloud is trying to further embed Gemini into enterprises' daily workflows, upgrading it from a pure generative AI tool to a "universal work agent" that can understand enterprise context, invoke business systems, and execute complex tasks.
