TRON Proposal 108 Goes Live as TRX Rebounds 2%

TRON has activated governance Proposal 108 following approval from its Super Representatives, introducing a new smart contract storage optimization feature designed to improve network stability and reliability.

Summary

  • TRON’s Proposal 108 took effect on November 2 after governance approval, enabling a new smart contract storage optimization feature.
  • The upgrade introduces changes to how the TRON Virtual Machine handles storage operations, with the goal of improving contract reliability.
  • A post expiry network check recorded 26 approval addresses and confirmed that the new storage optimization parameter had been enabled.
  • TRX recovered approximately 2% to trade near $0.32, although the token continued to face resistance around $0.325.
  • A move above $0.325 could bring $0.33 and $0.34 into focus, while a decline below recent support could expose TRX to further losses.

According to the official proposal discussion on GitHub, the upgrade took effect on November 2 after securing 25 approvals, with network parameter 102 now enabled on the mainnet.

The proposal, introduced on October 30, activates the ALLOW_OPTIMIZE_TVM_STORAGE_KEY parameter, which changes how the TRON Virtual Machine (TVM) handles certain smart contract storage operations.

The development comes as TRON continues to handle substantial stablecoin activity, while its native token, TRX, has recovered approximately 2% over the past 24 hours to trade near $0.32.

TRON activates smart contract storage optimization

Proposal 108 was introduced to improve the reliability of smart contract execution by addressing how storage keys are handled within the TVM, the environment responsible for executing smart contracts on TRON.

According to the proposal’s author, the change is intended to strengthen contract storage operations and provide a more dependable environment for applications that rely on the network.

Smart contracts regularly access and update stored information when processing transactions, including token transfers, lending activities and other decentralized finance operations.

The latest optimization changes how certain storage operations are handled, with the network’s technical documentation describing an improved database key structure that helps distinguish between storage slots.

TRON’s existing documentation explains that the optimized system uses full 32-byte storage keys and allows older storage entries to be migrated as contracts access them.

The change was introduced through network parameter 102, which was set to a value of 1 following the governance vote.

Before activation, node operators were instructed to upgrade to GreatVoyage-v4.8.2.4, also known as Empedocles, which was released on October 22.

The proposal’s author described the software release as a mandatory upgrade, particularly for block-producing Super Representatives, to ensure consistent network operation once the new parameter became active.

Proposal 108 receives approval from TRON validators

The governance proposal was submitted on October 30, with its voting period scheduled to expire on November 2 at 12:00 UTC.

According to a November 2 governance review, the proposal had received 23 recorded approvals by 02:06 UTC, rising to 25 by 04:47 UTC.

A subsequent network check conducted shortly after the voting deadline returned an approved status, with 26 unique approval addresses recorded.

The same review found that the storage optimization parameter had changed from its previously interpreted default value of zero to an explicit value of 1, indicating that the feature had been enabled.

Under TRON’s governance system, proposals require approval from at least 18 of the network’s 27 active Super Representatives before they can take effect.

The proposal’s author subsequently confirmed on November 3 that the governance change had taken effect the previous day and closed the GitHub discussion as completed.

The upgrade arrives during a period of considerable activity across TRON’s stablecoin ecosystem.

As crypto.news previously reported, the blockchain processed approximately $2.21 trillion in stablecoin settlement during the third quarter of 2026, alongside $701.4 million in network fees.

Transaction activity reached approximately 1.10 billion during the quarter, while the network generated 360.2 million TRX and burned 234.5 million TRX.

Can TRON’s latest upgrade support TRX price?

TRON’s governance approval has coincided with a modest recovery in TRX, although the token remains below levels recorded earlier in October.

According to market data from November 3, TRX was trading near $0.32, up approximately 2% over the previous 24 hours, with a market capitalization of roughly $30.4 billion.

Despite the daily recovery, the token remained down more than 4% over the past month, suggesting that buyers have yet to reverse the recent weakness.

The latest upgrade could support investor confidence in TRON’s underlying infrastructure, particularly if improved contract reliability encourages developers and existing applications to expand their activity on the network.

However, Proposal 108 does not directly change TRX’s supply, staking rewards or transaction fees, leaving any potential price benefits dependent on market demand and subsequent network activity.

TRX’s immediate price outlook remains tied to whether buyers can maintain momentum above the $0.32 area.

A sustained move above the $0.325 resistance region could put $0.33 back into focus, followed by $0.34 if buying pressure continues.

On the downside, a move below the recent $0.314 to $0.316 trading area could leave the token vulnerable to another decline towards the psychological $0.30 level.

TRX had traded around $0.335 in early October, when its price outlook remained closely tied to stablecoin activity and institutional demand.

Institutional access has expanded since September following the launch of a staked TRX ETF in the US under the ticker TRXS.

The fund provides exposure to TRX alongside staking rewards, although its market demand depends on investor participation and the value of its underlying holdings.
